Maximizing your ROI with Social Media

Maximizing your ROI with Social Media 300x200 Maximizing your ROI with Social MediaAre you maximizing your return on investment (ROI)? Be sure that the money and time you are investing in social media is providing a payoff.  This payoff could be monetary or it could be the reward in finding more clients, which eventually leads to monetary rewards. To maximize your ROI you must first determine what your social media goals are and what you expect in advance.

The problem is that most people who use social media don't track ROI at all. They might track dollars spent, but they do not factor in their time spent at all. Even though they spend an exorbitant amount of time on social media there is no accounting for it. The sad fact is if the time spent isn't planned out, and mapped out with specific goals in mind, much of that time is not productive.  This is where hiring a social media manager, strategist or consultant is very beneficial.  If you are not properly tracking the time you are spending on social media and what specifically you are gaining you may not be aware of time you may be wasting.  If you are not careful in social media you could waste your entire day away reading unrelated articles and looking at cute photos. This is by far one of the biggest time busters if you are not careful to plan.

Here are a few ways to maximize your ROI when using social media.

1.  Begin by keeping track of your time on social media.  Set a timer for 15 – 20 minutes and stay focused on the task at hand.  Always track the ROI of time you spend on activities in your business and decide if it is worth it for you to continue to do it or outsource.

2.  Use social media automation tools. You have to be aware that some types of automation can be detractors while some can add a lot of value. Which ones add or subtract are truly subjective issues that you have to study within your own organization and see what will work best for you.

·        Twitterfeed allows you to post from Facebook to Twitter and vice versa.

·        Hootsuite is a great automation platform to help you manage and automate your social media.

Various types of automation for social media enable you to create content once and distribute throughout all your social media channels.

The important thing to remember is to value your time first and foremost. Automation is a strategy that will keep you from wasting time. Although you may find tools to help you automate your social media you should still take time out to thank people for “following” you, or "liking" your page, or commenting on your blog posts. After all, social media is social at the heart, and you can't be social if you're not participating.  Be Socially Savvy!

Must get that timer out again. It is so effective. I get started on SM and am certain I will refrain from overindulging and I don't. Soon the day is gone. Great reminders!
    P.S. I love Hootsuite!
